With the help of a stellar weekend of pitching from Montana Fouts, No. 3 Alabama softball (31-5, 11-4) clinched the away series against the No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks (33-5, 13-2) by a score of 2-0.

The Crimson Tide’s 2-1 series victory marked the first time the Razorbacks lost a home conference series since 2017, and Alabama’s first series win in Fayetteville since 2015.

Fouts continues to prove why she is among the most elite pitchers in the entire country, and an incredibly reliable weapon for Alabama. After throwing 12 strikeouts and a complete-game Friday night, the Kentucky native threw another seven innings and logged 11 strikeouts on Sunday. Arkansas only managed to get two hits in the entire game on the way to getting shut out. Fouts is now 13-2 on the season starting on the mound.

Early in the first inning, the Razorbacks had bases loaded with no outs and a chance to take an early lead. Fouts struck out two straight, and wouldn’t look back from there. A fly out would end the inning and the Hogs would have trouble getting as far as third for the rest of the game.

Arkansas’ bullpen was effective for the most part as well, stranding 10 Alabama runners throughout the game when there were chances to add insurance runs. Kaylee Tow was by far the best bat for the Crimson Tide, going 3-3 on the day.

In the end, two runs was all Alabama needed. In the second, Jenna Johnson earned a hit-by-pitch RBI to score Savannah Woodard and take an early lead. The runners on both sides would be stranded until a wild pitch in the seventh inning scored Kayla Davis, marking the final run of the game. Another half inning of solid pitching from Fouts would seal the road victory for the Crimson Tide.

Next up, Alabama hosts the Alabama State Hornets this Wednesday April 14 at 6:00 p.m. CT.  The Crimson Tide’s  highly-anticipated home series against the No. 5 Florida Gators follows shortly after on April 16.
