UPDATE: Mae’s Southern Café Soul Food N BBQ in Northport Sets Reopening Date
A beloved Northport country restaurant that temporary closed its doors in late September has officially set a date for its reopening, which is slated for early November.
As previously reported, the restaurant closed last month due to staffing shortages and other problems the restaurant faced. Owner Brian Owens said the decision to close was made to relieve the workload of the staff.
"I decided to close instead of working the staff I did have to death," Owens said.

Owens confirmed to the Tuscaloosa Thread the restaurant will reopen on November 4 and will have an updated menu, which Owens said was revamped due to rising food costs most businesses are facing.
"We have a new menu and business hours. I took some of the most expensive items off and added more cost-friendly menu items," Owens said. "Most of our favorites, like red velvet cake and catfish, we are keeping."
Owens said he has received many calls during the temporary closure from customers inquiring about the return. He said he and his team appreciate the support they received and they are excited to resume business.
"We've received a lot of calls, asking when we were reopening," Owens said. "People love our whole cakes, so we did sell a few of those, as well as took a couple of catering orders while we were closed, but we are ready to get back open."
The restaurant, located at 4419 Highway 43, Suite 5 in Northport, will operate Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The business will not have operating hours on Saturday.
Owens said the restaurant will begin taking holiday catering orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas on the day of the reopening.
