Alabama senior running back Najee Harris opted to return to Tuscaloosa for his final year of eligibility last spring in order to improve his draft stock and leave his mark on The Capstone. Harris created his own Youtube Channel called The Campaign in which he has highlighted his efforts to be a top tier running back and make a run at the Heisman Trophy.

Alabama's only two Heisman Trophy winners have come via running backs in the Nick Saban era. Mark Ingram won the award in 2009 and Derrick Henry won the award in 2015. Through five games in 2020, Harris has surpassed the production that both Ingram and Henry produced in their Heisman winning seasons.

Harris now has more yards and touchdowns than both Ingram and Henry did through five games in their historic seasons. Harris may not win the bronze statue as he has plenty of competition and it has traditionally been a quarterback's award but regardless his season so far has been nothing less than impressive.

If the Crimson Tide qualifies for the SEC Championship game and the College Football Playoff, Harris will likely play in 13 games this season, one fewer than Ingram did in 2009 and two fewer than Henry did in 2015.

Harris sits 619 yards away from Henry's Alabama record of career rushing yards and is eight touchdowns away from Ingram's Alabama record of career rushing touchdowns. A strong second half of the season could see the senior from California leave Tuscaloosa with both Alabama records.
