Sleeping In On The Weekends May Help You Live Longer
Mom was wrong, we CAN catch up on our sleep on the weekends!
A new study says that if we don't get enough sleep during the week we can make up for it by sleeping in on the weekend. The study in the Journal of Sleep Research found that people who slept five hours a night had an increased risk of early death, but if they got nine hours of sleep on the weekends that increased risk wasn't there.
They also found that if we sleep eight hours or more each night our risk of early death is higher than we get 6-7 hours per night.
So it really is possible to “catch up” on sleep. Plus, it’s a good excuse to sleep in on the weekends, but don't be late for church.
