The 2022 high school football season in West Alabama came to a close Friday night but the second season also known as the AHSAA playoffs starts next week. Here is a look at how things wound up this week:
Thursday night Gordo beat Hale County 39-0 behind quarterback Brax Garrison. That result coupled with Oak Grove’s 47-18 win over Carbon Hill put Sipsey Valley in the playoffs due to AHSAA tiebreakers.
That said, the Bears did not need a win when they traveled Friday night to Samantha to take on Northside. That’s a good thing because the Rams celebrated Senior Night with a 27-6 win over Sipsey.
Sipsey Valley heads to Anniston for round one of the playoffs while Northside travels to Attalla to face Etowah.
Northridge celebrated its Senior Night by crushing Alma Bryant 41-14.
Pickens County won Thursday night over Marion County 51-21,
Tuscaloosa County finished 6-4 after beating Brookwood on the road 20-14. A big second half by quarterback Sawyer Deerman paved the way. The Wildcats were 1-9 last year and had quite the turnaround under Head Coach Adam Winegarden.
Winfield won big Thursday over Lamar County 47-14.
Fayetteville won at Holy Spirit 41-14 over on James I. Harrison Parkway.
Central and Bryant had byes and their seasons are over. ACA and Hillcrest had byes and will host playoff games next week.
In eight-man ball, North River Christian had a bye and will host a playoff game next week against Cornerstone Christian.
