Alabama Softball Assistant Named Head Coach at Memphis
Per Justin McLeod of Extra Inning Softball, Alabama pitching coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro will be the head coach at Memphis next season.
Prothro spent the last 11 seasons on the Alabama staff and has coached some of the Tide's best in names like Alexis Osario, Jackie Traina, Montana Fouts and more.
She suited up for the team from 2003-06 and helped the Tide win two SEC Championships and the first ever regular season title in her time with the program. Prothro was named SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2006, and in her time as a coach has guided numerous All-American pitchers.
This is yet another massive offseason loss for the Crimson Tide as it looks to rebuild after a disappointing 2022 season. Alabama missed out on the Super Regional Tournament for the first time ever since its inception and also suffered the loss of several players to the transfer portal.
Notable names like Dallis Goodnight, Megan Bloodworth and Lexi Kilfoyl made up just a few of the players that left the Crimson Tide this offseason, and while head coach Patrick Murphy has used the portal himself to bring in a few names, the Tide is still behind for 2023.
