The city of Northport announced another new business coming to town during its council meeting Monday night, this time highlighting a high-end liquor and cigar shop called Fifth & Handle.

Jeff Hogg, who represents Northport's District 5 and co-chairs its retail and development committee, said the new store will be a tenant in the Shops of Bristol Park next to the new Publix on Highway 69 North.

Hogg said the store will be owned and operated by a Northport family who hopes to open its doors in February, although it will take a few additional months to complete their cigar lounge.

Hogg and the current city council have been aggressively working to attract new restaurants and retailers and said Fifth & Handle will be the first of many to fill out the Shops of Bristol Park by the new Publix.

"With this area able to gain a new state-of-the-art Publix and shopping center, it was only a matter of time before other new quality businesses would follow," Hogg said. "The City is currently working with many different businesses at this location and eager to see the progress that Fifth and Handle will create from the jumpstart. We are very happy to have something different on the North side of Northport."
